Tips for staying fit as a single mom

If there is one thing I have learned over the past year as a single mom, it’s that LIFE GOES ON.
Bad shit will happen,  it is inevitable.  You just pick yourself up and move on to the next thing.
Just as in fitness….you may experience a setback, which will no doubt suck…..but you just pick yourself up and start over again.

Here are my five tips for how to stay fit as a single mom:

1. Just do SOMETHING. Grab some free weights and do some lunges. Do step-ups on the coffee table.  Run laps around the block while your kids are playing.  Any bit of movement will do wonders for your body and mind.  Endorphins are your friend!  overheadlunges

2.  Eat healthy.  I know there are many times I want to drown my loneliness and sadness in a bowl of ice cream, but that isn’t going to help me feel better.  As I often need to remind myself,

Face your stuff, don't stuff your face.

3.  Be kind to yourself.  Think of how you would talk to a friend going through the same things you are experiencing.  Would you tell them “you suck”?  Or “you failed”?  Of course not, so don’t say it/think it of yourself either.

4.  Invest in some decent equipment for home or find a gym with decent childcare.  Working on your health is NOT selfish. Take care of yourself and if you can afford it, hire a trainer.  Let him/her do the thinking for you.  If you cannot afford a personal trainer, consider a less formal training program.(of course, I love all the trainers from Ashley Horner!) I found some junk tires and flipping them is GREAT stress relief!  Even my kids like to join in on the action! tiresflex

5.  Meditation/therapy/stress relief:  Aside from fitness, you need to find time to relax and clear your brain of all stress. Whether that means talking through your issues or spending an hour getting a massage,  find a way to fit it into your budget and life.

Constant stress if not good for anyone, especially a single mom.

Right now, it may seem like you have the hardest job in the world, so I just want to say you are an amazing, awesome person. Keep your focus and stay strong!
